GAS LEAKS
Gas leaks are a dangerous problem.
If you suspect that there is a gas leak in your home:
If it is safe to do so
• Attempt to extinguish flames using a fire blanket or an appropriate extinguisher.
• Turn off the gas at the gas meter or cylinder.
Never ignore your senses.
If you smell gas, take the following precautions:
• Turn off the gas at the meter (natural gas users) or at the tank or cylinder (LP gas users) – only if safe to do so.
• Extinguish all flames and do not smoke or strike matches.
• Do not operate electrical switches or devices.
• If inside a building or home, open doors and windows to ventilate the area.
• Keep people away from the affected area.

Flashing – Flashing can be lead sheeting ,colour bond or aluminium. Its role is to protect and seal from water outflow. Occasionally ageing or incorrectly fitted flashing can result of water ingress. The affect can be staining, rot and dampness.

Broken tiles and pointing – Pointing is the adhesive that holds the ridge tiles. As age and water impact on the mortar, a deterioration process caused by a drop in the alkaline can weaken the mortars strength. This can allow water into the rood cavity. The remedy is to remove and replace the pointing mix.
Piping connections – Many older properties used inferior 'brown' copper piping. It is thinner and susceptible to breakage. Connections can be pressure fittings or soldered. These type can on occasion leak and need to be tightened or replaced.
